the wild world of dreams It’s fitting that no one remembers who first said the phrase “writing about art, is like dancing about architecture.” The sentence once spoke captured the essence of why we create so succinctly that it instantly became cannon. Art cannot be explained and trying to explain why work moves us is such a futile endeavor. But it does. We see something, in this case, video work, that hits upon something deep within that changes our perspective in a way no persuasive argument could. These six works stand out from the wonderful international collection assembled by the Fluid folks, for their technical quality, striking narratives and luscious visuals. But also almost miraculously they fit together. Each is a meditation on the world we can only see on the screen-- the imagery of what happens once we close our eyes. From animated systematic horror of “Roue” and “Arachne” to the surreal live-action whimsy of “Inodo” and “A Love Story” each of these pieces speaks to those events that only happen in dreams. Video has made the documentation of dreams possible in a way like never before, it is a very exciting time and place to be. Moviehouse seeks to foster connections through discussion of the issues raised by film and video work rather than to present art in the passive format available at a local movie theater. Through the exhibition of this excellent work we hope to provide access to remarkable artists in a free, relaxed setting that encourages conversation, collaboration and community. On October 11, we hope that these six pieces along with the fascinating interactive art that proceeds it will give you the opportunity to explore your own dreams and perhaps bring your own perspective to the dialogue between environment, art, and audience.
